CITY COLLEGE–Students at The City College of New York (CCNY), like students at other schools, are now using artificial intelligence (AI) and specifically ChatGPT. CCNY students quickly adapted the platform to generate answers to homework questions and to write papers. But they also wonder about whether they are violating academic integrity policies.
“This may affect professors more than students because ChatGPT allows students to quickly complete busy work,” Olivia Williams said. The sophomore psychology major uses ChatGPT and thinks teachers might have to work harder to create work students cannot cheat on. Williams describes busy work as homework that seems to have no significant purpose or educational value. “Busy work just trains us to be docile and we need to be challenged to learn.”
