CITY COLLEGE–The City College of New York (CCNY) men’s soccer team is struggling this season. The Beavers are on an eight-game losing streak and have yet to win a road game. As a result, they will have a difficult time getting into the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship Series. The team has had an eight-year drought since it won the championship.
Student-athletes on the team wonder why they continue to lose. Michael Torres, the starting goalkeeper, pointed to the lack of offense. “The team is not taking enough shots, especially the strikers. We never have more shots on goal than the opposition in our games.” The Beavers are 9-60 to opponents in goal contribution and 79-341 in total shots taken, according to statistics from the CCNY Athletics Department.
