York Plans to Launch Shuttle Van Service for Safety, Transportation

YORK COLLEGE–York College is exploring plans to launch a shuttle van service for its students and staff. The proposed service, overseen by the Athletics and Student Activities departments, aims to provide daily transportation to and from local transit hubs to access subway lines J, L, and E.

Modeled after similar initiatives at Bronx Community College and City College, the program involves purchasing vans specifically to address transportation needs within the college community. Additionally, it would support students attending campus retreats and athletes traveling for games.

College students, in particular, face increasing challenges to arrive on time for classes and juggle commitments. Students rely heavily on the MTA system to get where they need to go, but the system is often unreliable. Long waits, overcrowded cars, frequent delays, service suspensions, and skip-stops caused by ongoing reconstruction leave many riders struggling to adjust.
