Opinion: CUNY Control Over Student Activities Fees Would Overhaul Campus Life

CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK — Historically, The City College of New York has been one of the freer colleges in the City University of New York (CUNY) system and the state at-large. Not only was City College the first tuition-free higher education institution, but it is also home to the first student government in the nation–– founded in 1884. This student government was founded with a mission of self-determination; it was based on the belief that students know what students need. Now, the CUNY Board of Trustees is attempting to eliminate student control over their own funding.
