New App Brings Peace of Mind for Late Night Student Commuters

BROOKLYN COLLEGE–If you’re like most Brooklyn College students, you have probably found yourself leaving class or the library after dark. You also likely have to walk to the train station or your apartment, and it goes without saying that sometimes it can be a bit unnerving to walk alone.

Recently, two CUNY students, Brooklyn College junior Estefania Barron, and City College junior Ashia Nagi, have come up with the idea for an app called “CakeWLK” that would solve that problem by using technology to help match people with temporary walking buddies to accompany them on their trips in similar directions home. Currently, CakeWLK is in its beta testing phase, but the two co-founders intend to launch an official app by the end of 2018.
