QUEENS COLLEGE— In an ongoing quest to improve the accessibility of the campus, several ramps, paths and entrances will be renovated for students with disabilities, bringing Queens College fully in adherence with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Americans with Disabilities Act is a civil act introduced on July 26th, 1990 approved by President George H.W. Bush. The act was introduced, prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities to ensure they are given the same opportunities as their able-bodied counterparts. This includes mobility-access, access to service animals, communication and more.
The upgrades to accommodations allow for students with disabilities, physical or mental, to have the support to move around campus and have the same college experience as able-bodied students. Per the terms of the contract, the ramp upgrades and repairs must be complete by May 15th, 2026.
